New Candidate for Governor is a Musician

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Finally, a political candidate who can sing a play a guitar. Singin’ Sam Little is running for governor, his campaign informs the Alaska Pioneer Press. Here’s his Web site. His campaign song loads right up (and plays in a loop). Didn’t check out his platform, just his song.

A Nice, Clean Alley!

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

I arrived to open SUDS Laundromat today to find piles of jagged ice lining the alley and heavy equipment at work — the road service folks were clearing the alley behind SUDS and the Fairview Inn. By the time I had the lights on and the OPEN flag up the alley was clear and tidy. Great, fast work!

SUDS Laundromat Closing Jan. 6

Winter Comes to SUDS

Dear Customers,
We regret that we must announce the closure of SUDS Laundromat and Propane Service in Talkeetna effective 6 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2010. Our revenues do not meet the cost of the utility bills and rent, and that is a fatal equation for any business. Prior wintertime customers have chosen other laundry and shower options this winter, and our landlord says he has a better use for the space.
We consider the services provided by SUDS – laundry, propane, showers and an ATM – to be essential services. We hope someone will be able to open a larger and more suitable year-round facility. Unfortunately we cannot afford to do so at this time.
Our hours of operation will continue to be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily until 6 pm. on Jan. 6. We thank our customers for what has been an interesting and enjoyable six months.

No Free Friday Movie in Talkeetna

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Looks like it’s bingo Friday for the Alaska Pioneer Press crew instead of the free movie! This just in from Kathleen Fleming of the Community Schools Program:

“Season’s Greetings!
In a previous e-mail I told you about the movie planned for this week, “Joyeux Noel“.  Unfortunately I will not be able to show this true heartwarming Christmas movie.  Hope this doesn’t inconvenience anyone.
No Community Schools Program during Winter break, I’ll be back to work and hosting Teen/Adult Bball on Jan. 4th and 5th, Volleyball continues on Thursdays, as does Pre-School Gym.  The current Fall semester ends mid-January.  I’ll be looking for new class ideas and instructors, let me know if you have ideas or requests.
Joyous Celebrations to all -
Kathleen

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

I’m hoping our new version of the Alaska Pioneer Press Online is easier to use and easier on the eyes than the last Frankenstein-style Web site I built. It’s about 3 a.m., and I’m no longer an objective source. Please stop by and let us know what you think.

SUDS Laundry Log:

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

The washers and dryers are feeling very lonely this week. Give them a sense of purpose — visit SUDS Laundromat in the back of Twister Creek Restaurant. Soap is still 50 cents per load.
